Well, with three kids, a person is bound to spend more time with doctors right? On Monday the girls turned 6 weeks old! V and I celebrated by going to the pediatrician about a rash on her face! Pretty sure it's the same allergy to milk that X had when he was an infant. It just took me a little longer to clue in since it did not present itself in the hospital at all! I did find out that she is now 12 lbs 1 oz! She also grew 3 inches! Crazy. She's feeling a lot better now.
Today, about 5 minutes after M came back from dropping X off at school, the school called. They said X had fallen on the playground and had a nasty bump on his head, could we come see him? So M went back to the school and brought him home. M checked his pupils and so on, looking for signs of concussion, but there were none, until he puked. Twice. The second time he puked I was already getting myself together to take him to hospital. For extra fun he puked again in a Timmy's cup half way there. I forgot to bring a bucket and handed him the only thing in reach. ;)
Turns out if you go to the emergency department with a 'head injury' you don't have to wait! As the mom of the 5 year old in question, I was not impressed with the term 'head injury.' It scared me. It also scared me when he was slow to answer questions like "what school do you go to?" He answered, but he was slow. Then they told me "the plan." An IV for fluids and a cat scan. WHAT? You're going to stick a needle in my little boy? No no no. But I tried to be brave! I told him what was coming, but we both still cried when it happened. But I didn't let him see me. And I didn't TOTALLY freak out.
The cat scan was super fun. Mostly because it was apparent that he was already feeling 100% better. We were having fun practicing reading and making notes of all the cool things he could tell his friends at school about! Plus I saw his brain. Hahaha! He did really well staying still though. Plus he kept getting stickers, so he was 'paid' in kid currency for his time! :) Everything was clear and they sent us home, but we get to wake him up throughout the night tonight to see if he can answer questions. I don't know if I could answer questions if people woke me out of a sound sleep wanting to know what day it was!!
Tomorrow it's my turn to see the doctor for my post-babies checkup. Hopefully L will wait for a scheduled appointment! But I'm really not looking forward to the immunizations that are booked for the end of the month! Bah.
Hope you have a great day!!
